Focus of the Group

This group is a 8-hour course for parents who would like to more effectively manage defiance, opposition, temper tantrums, and non-compliance in their children and/or teenagers. The program will include a review of state-of-the-art learning and behavioural concepts, and will provide hands-on training in skills and techniques for reducing disruptive, defiant behaviours, and building self-esteem and optimism in children and teenagers.

Learn how to:

• Manage children with self-regulation challenges like ADHD, conduct disorder, anger
problems, learning disability, and autistic spectrum disorder
• Respond to non-compliance and diminish negative interactions
• Create better behavioural transitions (e.g., bed to school, playing to homework)
• Enhance family functioning and communication
• Build better emotional self-regulation and stress management in your children
• Establish incentive programs, including the use of token and point economies

Highlights
• Develop your own program for your own children—with the help of others in the group
• Learn and understand why behavioural problems arise
• Films, videos, and other multimedia presentations
• Role-playing and other hands-on exercises
• Sharing and mutual problem-solving with other parents
